Cogswell College at GDC 2012

Hey Blog Readers!

I was here bright and early to watch everyone start rolling into the Expo floor. Last night around the city there were serveral parties hosted by various game companies and the like, so needless to say, this morning everyone is a little tired. But the energy is picking up and there are smiles on every face. Our student volunteers are doing a great job as well, so a big thank you so far goes out to Matt, Dashiell, Jennifer, Nick, Andrew S, Shane and Andrew M! You guys are rockin’ it!

I will be checking back in a little later today to update everyone. Talk to you soon!

Cogswell College at GDC 2012

Hey Everyone,

So today was a great day for Cogswell at GDC. So many people stopped by the booth to talk to our students and representatives. Many connections were made that could end up being potential partnerships. Also, many companies that saw Cogswell as a very special place for training the future of the game design industry. Many alumni stopped by as well took a look at our games and demo reel, every one of them commented about how great the work from the students is looking and especially things coming from Project X. I had several conversations myself with people who thought what Cogswell is doing is an amazing thing.

A bunch of the student volunteers and other Cogswell people decided to stick around for the IGF Awards to see who won. If anything special comes from that I will be sure to let you know!

If you have never heard of the IFG, click here to get the details:

So all in all, today was a great for day on the Expo floor. We are looking forward to an even better Thursday and Friday. I will check in with you guys soon. Stay tuned!

Minimalistic Poster

It has been a while since the last dare. Sorry about that, we had some problems on our end. That aside, I have a new dare for you! This one is influenced by Pixar this time around. As some of you may know, we are celebrating our 125 Year Anniversary here at the Cogswell. On that same note, Pixar is Celebrating their 25 Year Anniversary and with that they released a cool little poster recently that I love.

Cogswell College on ABC News

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

esterday a camera crew from ABC News came and did a story on the Project X class and the films it has produced yesterday here on campus! It was really cool when a large group of us sat around the tv in the student lounge and watched when they aired it last night. Also, I just got the link for the online version! So, check it out everyone!

Doug Solomon on Innovation

Lecture about Innovation in New Venture

Yesterday I had the great honor and pleasure of sitting in on a class that was being led by a immensely genius man; Doug Solomon. The school was lucky to have a connection to his employer, IDEO, a company that deals in creating innovative solutions for companies. In Cogswell’s Entrepreneurial marketing class students work on marketing plans for their ventures while being instructed in marketing strategy for start-ups. They bring in a guest speaker each week to discuss real life topics. Doug graciously decided to come to the school and give a talk about innovation for new ventures to the Marketing class. The information that he provided on the creative process and the steps that are required to really understand the product, service or content for a client was by far some of the best I have ever heard. I was not alone in my opinion of Mr. Solomon, the students and faculty had many questions for him through his talk and soaked up his answers like it was distilled success. I think I speak for everyone who was there that we look forward to trying to get Doug back for another talk sometime soon.

Zombies Dare: Draw Abe Lincoln
Dare time ya’ll! This one is in honor of the release of the amazingly cool trailer; Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (and Presidents Day). I got totally inspired to draw something crazy when I saw that trailer and thought maybe you guys could join me. Instead of making you go and do an extravagant painting or drawing I ended up finding this little picture of a sculptural bust of good ol’ Honest Abe. So whats the dare you ask?
