Cogswell is lucky to have many devoted alumni who come back occasionally to teach classes where they bring the latest best practices and share their particular artistry. Peter Mo and Mason Sheffield are just two recent alumni instructors.
This summer, Devorah Petty is teaching our Digital Arts and Animation Texturing class. Devorah is a freelance texture painter and look developer with nearly a decade of experience working for major visual effects, animation, and gaming clients.
After finishing a series of modeling and animation classes at Cogswell in the late 90s, Devorah began her career on the first Matrix film, joining the staff at Manex as a texture painter and working her way to lead texture painter, where she worked on the Matrix Sequels as well as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Mission Impossible II, Bless the Child and Minority Report.
She later accepted a position at PDI, working on the preproduction of Madagascar and other shows in the commercial division. The lure of the Matrix sequels inspired her to join ESC to build a new pipeline and put together a team of texture painters to complete the siege part of the sequels. She also worked at ESC as a technical director on Revolutions and a look development lead on Catwoman.
She embarked on a successful freelance career in 2004 with clients such as Apple computer, Radium, Assemble, GKR, and The Orphanage and many others. She worked on Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Spiderman 3, Next, Fantastic Four 2, Die Hard 4 and numerous game and commercial projects. Her most recent project is Surrogates starring Bruce Willis.
We are happy to have Devorah return to Cogswell to share her experiences and challenge students to do their absolute best.
